Passport and Security checks would have been the same regardless
The process which I went through is not very customer friendly, I can think of many ways how this can be improved. From QF allowing baggage through check with separate tickets / PNR and having an airside transfer to having a free transfer method which allows you to have your bags stay on a luggage cart. Which doesn't drop you in the arrivals area at the far side of the terminal when you need to be in departures. And having 2 screening lines open when you have a lot of international departures is also not great.
