The letters denote fare buckets (described
here) and are the number of tickets being sold by the airline, rather than the number of seats available. Generally 9 = there are 9 or more tickets in this fare bucket being sold and 0 = fare bucket sold out, anything inbetween shows limited availability. The more 9's you see the quieter the flight usually is.
