Welcome to FlyerTalk! Did the YouTube video mention a specific airline? Because I think this has worked and may still work on Alaska (AS) or Southwest (WN) I don't think it's ever been the case on Delta.

If you scroll to the top of the thread you will see a wiki post containing lots of accumulated info, wisdom, and pitfalls on using the credit on DL, as well as links to corresponding threads on other airlines that you can look at to see if those would work better for you (if you haven't used any of the credit yet you may still be able to change your airline designation)
