My company just announced that we have a corporate travel agreement with AA that is good for 10% off any fare before taxes. This discount also applies to personal travel. Most of my travel is deeply discounted APEX fares to the upper Midwest and east coast, so I suppose I would have to get used to paying more. What's the upgrade situation like over at AA? How's MRTC? So far, NW has managed to avoid pissing off low yield FF's by awarding 100% eqm on all flights. What factors should I look at when deciding to move over or stay put? Any thoughts would be appreciated.
My opinion is that as a very low tier, you're much better off with NW. I'm Gold with NW this year, will be either Gold or Platinum next year. I'm Plat with AA now and will be EXP next year. I maintain my NW status for domestic travel and do AA internationally because of the OneWorld alliance. NW has better upgrade possibilities (for the most part) for low-tier domestic travel, IMO. Until the recent change (charge for international upgrades), AA had better international upgrade options. Actually, availability on AA is still probably better than NW for international upgrades.
As the #2 post said, look at your travel plans and see who suits you better.
