I thought I had this figured out after reading most if not all of the now massive thread on the new loyalty points system, but an exchange with someone apparently much more observant than me has me wondering…

My take was that spending on the shopping would count point for dollar, meaning that if I spent $100 via the shopping portal, I’d get 100 points, regardless of any bonus. For example, if Macy’s is offered at a 2x bonus (2 AA miles for $1 spent), I would still only get 1 loyalty point. I’m very much hoping I’m wrong about this.

Moreover, if I’m wrong about this, what points do exclude bonus points?

I do realize that this has been discussed throughly in the original loyalty points thread, but I’m assuming at some point we don’t need to post literally every question about the American elite status/points earning process in one thread, and that thread has been so difficult to navigate and even search that I thought I might go out on a limb and post here for some summary/clarification.
