I absolutely agree that it’s probably in a lot more places already but I guess it depends on whether this is still in the “early stages”; if so the travel restrictions could buy us some time in determining how the vaccines work against it and whether this variant causes more severe illness etc.

The UK cases just discovered were apparently related to travel from Southern Africa…

The tests yesterday of the 600 pax on two KLM flights from JNB and CPT into AMS showed a rather alarming 10% positivity rate (61 out of the 600+ pax tested positive!)…looking on the “bright” side, it did stop 61 pax from further spreading it throughout Europe and North America (since many of those pax were no doubt connecting thru AMS).
