Airline denying reason for delay was tech

Hi
hope someone can help. Flew from Orlando to Miami on American Airlines connecting with British Airways for London.
There was a delay in Orlando due to bad weather but when we left the gate we still had plenty of time to-make our connection.
The flight went tech at the start of the runway and had to return to the gate , the captain announced it was a computer error.
By the time the flight eventually took off we had missed our connection in Miami.
The captain spoke to us and assured us that as the flight had gone tech we would receive accommodation in Miami.
The rebooking desk refused to accept our flight had gone tech. They said they did not have any available accommodation and we eventually left Miami 24 hours later.
The airline reported the delay as being caused purely by bad weather.
This has prevented us from claiming compensation from British Airways.
How do we obtain proof that the flight went tech ?
would there be a record of this?
American Airlines have simply ignored every request we have made for confirmation that the flight went tech.
Appreciate it if anyone can help.
