The Amstel is no longer the Amstel it used to be after the major renovation of 1990-1992.

Bad policy by IHG, the owners and local management are to blame.
If you don't renovate and the rooms are still the same as they were 30 years ago, if you only make operational cuts, take no action if you first lost 1 and then 2 stars, etc. then you can't expect anything else.'
Of course a soft renovation of the rooms would be nice.
Still, I do not think that the grande dame is in bad state at all
Furthermore, RPW Design has completed the re-design of the A Bar, a chic new cocktail bar in the InterContinental Amstel some years ago.
And if I understood well, structural works should have been done recently to consolidate the 1867 listed building.
