Pre-Covid, that pivot (adding showers to key United clubs) was a serious discussion, and I was told it was in the plans for EWR. Driven by the fact that despite United’s position, showers remain a part of the core SkyClub and Admirals Club product at hubs, and branded third party lounges (Amex, primarily).
This was relayed in 2019 or so, and I have no idea where things stand now.
