Exactly, you can't get a non-essential visa appointment for the USA until 2022 here in Turkey and people and children/relatives of my friends that would start university or graduate studies in the USA starting from August 2021 are getting their F-1 visa appointment on January 2022.
The US consulate in Istanbul and the US embassy in Ankara has a very long line for visa appointments and they are backlogged.
Also for those others who are criticizing that Turkish citizens could travel freely from Turkey to the USA, I would suggest them to visit the US consulate in Istanbul; every time when I go there for a visa, 90% of the applicants get their visa application denied and leave the consulate with their passports in their hands.
