If I understand your situation correctly to match jsloan's recap above, one thing you may want to try is searching for a new, one way flight booking on any return date that works for you. Look to see if there is something that fits your schedule without the overnight. Then you can call to ask to be changed for no charge. That said, if the re-accommodation gave you an overnight, there may simply be no options for getting from your A to your B in one day.
