I was almost denied entry to a *G lounge last week because I was asked for my physical card. It's rare but it still happens sometimes. I showed him my old one and at first, the guy said: "It's expired". Then I told him I haven't received my new one yet. Then I asked him to just look up my FF# and he agreed. I was the only person in the lounge for a good hour so I think he was just trying to be lazy.
