This eliminates the possibility of lounge access when you are not using AA FFP on other OneWorld/partner airlines' boarding passes. There may be some snarky partner lounges still asking for physical cards then you are toasted.
The last time I've been asked to show a frequent flyer card was in 2006, when I entered the LH lounge in MUC before a US flight to PHL.
I've used AA and partner lounges around the world....and not once was I asked for a card.
