Its important to remember that it wasn't that long ago AA were coded as F for domestic First and until that changed we were paying more avios for premium redemptions. The sweet spot in the cabin alignment then became cheaper redemptions in terms of Avios outlay. I think this just goes to show until a time AS recode their premium cabin from F to J in line with AA redemptions will always be high in comparison.
On the flip side, cash fares will be a sweet spot on the AS network where F tier points will be awarded to BAEC. A transcon/Hawaii flight offering 180 tier points compared to 140 on AA (3 class AA services excluded... which would typically involve a larger cost outlay anyway).
