BA89 is likely to be to PEK rather than PKX. It’s much easier for BA to use PEK for freight as the cargo infrastructure is much more mature around the older airport. The same thing happened when they moved the HND back to NRT when it was operating as a pure freighter.

The reason it has a different flight number is mainly for Chinese overflight permit reasons (BA89/88 used to be the CTU flight a few years ago). Since it’s to the same city, I doubt it counts as a cancellation. Rather, a re-route. Please check if PEK really doesn’t suit you though.
