I agree. The OP keeps talking about avoiding the front desk but complains about a flat phone. If your phone goes flat you approach reception and get a key, same as if you lost your key. Contact will be unavoidable in either of these situations. Alternately, if you're down to 3% charge turn your phone off in the knowledge you want to reenter your room without having to speak to any staff.
The biggest issue I had this week is now that you have to wear a face mask in all public areas, my iphone cannot use face authentication and I have to type the password before getting to the door, which can be difficult if your hands are full. I have also found at some properties it can take some time for the app to realise you are standing next to your door and you are standing there waiting for the button to appear to unlock the door.
