I checked 10 minutes ago and had no extension yet, just checked again and it is showing.
My year ends in August, made silver this year (first time I have made status). Was showing 2021 expiry and now showing 2022. It seems that you get the extension even if you qualified this year.
Just to highlight this would be an upgrade in the current year rather than a re-qualification. I think that may be significant in terms of what happens.
