I was about to say the shorter 787-8 should have a longer operational range, but upon double check, it was wrong: the 787-9 OR is very slightly larger (7,635 nautical miles vs 7,355)
A flight between MEX-ICN is merely 800 miles short of the maximum range for the 788.
