To me airlines are not really competing on routes. If an other airline is flying the route, they may let them have all the traffic (=little). Freight is very busy, with air freight rates increased
UA is still flying SFO-SYD. QR are still flying. NH going SYD to Japan. Air NZ SYD-AKL
