threeoh agree 100% that the Southwest approach is bad. There are multiple customer reports in the Southwest owned discussion forums that when Southwest cancels a flight they are refusing to refund the purchase, they are only making travel funds available. Again, this is not customer cancelled reservations, this is Southwest cancelled flights.
Part two of this is that they are also reportedly not refunding Early Bird fees on Southwest cancelled flights.
I'm surprised this hasn't been picked up in the press.
