From an elite upgrade perspective, the fact that AA does not offer discounted buy-ups to F is a very good thing. If you want the opportunity to buy cheap upgrades, suggest moving your flying to UA. They are happy to sell F seats out from under waitlisted 1Ks at a substantial discount.
