A little history: Islanders are used to stocking up on TP and other necessities when hurricanes threaten. We are aware that in the case of a direct hit, roads will be impassible, electricity may be down for an extended time, and normality could takes weeks or months to resume. So, families stock up on necessities. The government issues warning to do so, and many heed the call.

Now in the case of COVID-19, people are doing what comes naturally. In my case, I'm stocking up so if we need to, my family can isolate ourselves from COVID-19 carriers, or isolate ourselves from non-COVID-19 carriers if we catch it.

So, no...this is not a joke.
