you’re right - EI awards are very difficult with AS miles. I wouldn’t hold my breath for one to become available.
If you are interested in west coast to Europe business class availability, EI is a great option when booked with avios, transferred from MR and UR. The further out it is booked, the better. I just booked one for September.
It’s probably best to not rely on AS miles for J travel to Europe if you’re not willing to fly BA. Particularly in the high season.
