I believe that it’s only free for one device so others wouldn’t have offered you a free connect option.
It is only free for one device. I tried on two different devices. It worked on none.
Also, even if I had connected on one device, the "Connect now" link, if it were working properly, still would be active on the second device. Only after I entered my passenger info would the system realize I already had connected a device and rejected my second attempt.
