We could probably travel as early as October if there are available paper certs expiring 10/31/04. All we are really interested in doing is a getting as many miles as possible on a single trip so we can credit them to our AS accounts as BIS miles. We would certainly assist anyone willing to trade in finding upgradeable UA flights.
the booking class you need is C for the international segments. if you have purely domestic segments left in your total of 3 per one way, then they will also qualify for upgrade provided class D (3-class) or A (2-class) is available.

as far as getting an idea of available C seats, the Mileage Run forum's Class Availability Tool does the job once you get it installed and going. other than that, it's best to just call the AAdvantage desk. they don't require you to have the miles (or evp) in your account when the reservation is made. do a little pre-studying of the AA system so you can devise alternative routings if need be, more creatively than the agent.
