Both times Lyft had the price listed and lined out with the discount price listed below. Saturday night for a mile and a half ride Lyft was a couple dollars cheaper than Uber. Sunday afternoon even with the discounted Lyft price, Uber was about $1.50 cheaper for a mile and a half ride. Both times I decided to just walk, not sure why rideshare is so expensive in my city, I can travel almost ten miles in a lyft in chicago for what it costs to go a mile and a half from my house.
Because in Chicago, cabs are dirt cheap and readily available. Ride sharing has to compete. They are almost certainly losing money in Chicago.
