ISTFlyer laid out the answer quite nicely. The TK website is also pretty good (at least in my experience) about letting you know how much you need in year one to "protect" your status and moving the target in year 2 if you miss out.
The 2-year cycle is pretty simple once you get the hang of it. And it's very pleasant feeling to not have to worry about elite status every single year. And to know that E+ gets you a minimum of 4 years of *G.
