It should be interesting to see how this plays out. As I've said before, Boeing simply has too much invested in the MAX at this point. I suspect a software fix plus hardware adjustments (dual angle-of-attack sensors on all MAX aircraft, along with the disagree light in all cockpits at a minimum) plus simulator training is all it will take for these planes to fly. Whether or not that will be enough to convince the public that they're safe remains to be seen. But ultimately that question is less important than whether or not this is enough to convince carriers to continue buying them. I suspect that this, combined with significant discounts and pent-up need for aircraft, will keep the MAX flying for years. Or at least until an alternative aircraft is available.
