I'm looking at booking an award seat with a long (6 hour) connection. There are earlier connecting flights available, but those itineraries cost more miles. If I book an award seat, can I try to fly standby on one of the earlier connecting flights? Would there be a fee to fly standby? Does it make a difference if my award seat is first class vs coach? All of my bags will be carry-ons. I tried to Google this, but found myself utterly confused. Many thanks!
