A slight twist on this might be to use an old cell phone and one of the $20-$50 GL.Inet travel routers. I've used mine with various Samsung phones acting as modems via USB and it's always worked well. I'm not sure how well it works when it's been set up like that for weeks on end 'though. It's been at least 2 years since I've been in the same location for 5 days or longer.
Good price on the hotspot rental. What is your cost per GB of data?
