I have a friend who much prefers Virgin Atlantic which flying LAX-LHR. I like AA, personally, and try to get a seat on a 77W.
HOWEVER, my earlier advice stands. I seriously advise you to take your business and questions to a travel agent and pay the commission for the personalized service.
The expertise of a travel agent is worth the cost for a novice, nervous traveler.
