Exact timing of 1A/K release

I've gotten a few different answers, so I'm looking for something definitive. Does JAL release 1A/K for assignment at T-24, midnight day of flight (if so, who's midnight), or at the airport only?
My daughter is in 2K next week, and I'm in 2G. She gets the window seat, but I'd prefer if I could have a window too (northern lights are magic). So it's not critical, but I really want 1K.
