Just so I understand the difference between some of the verbiage here and in the article, the article is referring to the narrowbody non-321's that sometimes operate the SFO/LAX-JFK/MIA, and not any service changes to the standard domestic 22XX+ mile tier catering, right? The current service on the "regular" longest domestic flights was standardized years ago to meet the current galley packout requirements, IIRC.
