There are no major differences, in the mechanism with which the tug “clamps” the front wheel and then lifts it, between a Mototok and a normal towbarless tug. Accidents happen and are investigated to avoid them happening again, much like it happens on conventional tugs.
what I know for sure, for I’ve seen a year and a bit of data on Tableau when I had access to it, is that aircraft movement delays on short haul (i.e. everyone is ready to go but no tug) have all but disappeared, and once they were in the top 5 categories for delay to short haul aircrafts. Under this point alone Mototoks have been a huge advantage which, dare I say it, benefits customers too.
