YVR- PVG-YVR (round-trip ticket direct)

PVG-PUS-TOKYO-PVG (separate tickets)
Separate tickets, different airlines - doesn't matter. As long as China is the transit.

For TWOV purposes your itineraries will be YVR-PVG-PUS and then TYO-PVG-YVR.

TWOV eligible both times.
