The flights via Russia seem to be the last cheap viable option.
There is a reason for that.
Most of the routings aren't protected. No doubt many will make it, but I'm equally certain we'll hear some horror stories after the fact.
There isn't necessarily any consistency in Russia and one person might be successful where another following exactly the same logic fails.
If you want security, get a single PNR and fork out the extra cash. FT folks can only advise, it's no guarantee.
