It seems like this is much more beneficial for those who are in outstations, where it is easy for people to rack up segments.
Almost all of my flying is short-haul, (IND-ORD, IND-LGA, or BDL-ORD) so if I am understanding this correctly, if I were to switch to UA from AA I will easily have enough for Premier 1k given I easily rack up around 60+ segments on AA. Given that most of my travel is last minute, PQPs won't be an issue for me. In the past it would be impossible for me to get 1k status given the 120 PQS or 100,000 PQMs requirement, given hardly any of my travel is long-haul
May have to switch over to UA because of this
