They only scanned our hand luggage. There are two scan points, before and after you pick up your checked luggage. We arrived around 8pm at night and only a few people (off of two flights) were asked to to have their luggage scanned at the second scan point. A 12 oz Pepsi or mixer from the minibar is $10++ / $15++.
