I'm in 3-4-3 more often than I prefer between HNL-SFO if I don't buy up or get the very rare upgrade. The seats are firm - definitely not soft. I'm 6' 220ish, and I've personally not not felt much of a difference between the the configurations although I've only been in E+. I do think the 3-4-3 is firmer.
