This will only work for reservations in 2020 from what we can tell.

The villa categories in 2020 will be:
1) Reef Villa
2) Overwater Villa
3) Beach Villa (Currently the basic villa standard award in 2019)

Based on these new villa categories you should be able to contact the hotel and ask them to "downgrade" your award to Overwater Villa or Reef Villa.

For my stay we are staying in a Beach villa for 5 days and then moving to an Overwater villa for 3 days. We prefer the beach villa because of the access to the beach.
On our last visit to the Maldives we stayed at the Conrad and wished we had more time in our Deluxe Beach Villa versus the Spa Retreat Overwater Villa.
Will this also be the case in 2021? It looks as though water villas may not be available at Rangali for a while and I wouldn’t mind staying at this property if I could get a water villa on points. My planned trip is January 2021.
