IIRC, Quito and Entebbe are the two reasonably-sized cities you'd need to visit if you wanted do to the same thing at the equator, although
I don't know whether either have a designated touristy photo-op spot for it.
someone upthread posted a pic from near the park in the mountains above UIO ... last Oct, our Galapagos tour started with a couple days in Quito; we arrived ~24 hours before the official meetup, and decided to take a hop-on/hop-off bus tour the following day ... at the ticket kiosk we discovered we had missed the once-daily trip to the Equator park by less than half an hour
