I don't have a preference on airline.
I'm curious if anyone has advice on the best value method to get this done: Buy an Economy ticket and upgrade with points? Use points to buy a Biz ticket outright? Book w/ Amex and use points there? Transfer points to another airline's loyalty program?
Based on my internet research, Avios seemed to be the best option, and i can currently convert AmEx points to Avios at a 40% bonus (BA and AerLingus). However, BA isn't showing any availability for the entire month of October. Is this a timing thing?
Another possible option seems to be Virigin to London and Aer Lingus to Boston, but that's also very limited availability.
I know this is a pretty precise issue and not an easy question to answer, so any solid info or advice would be very much appreciated. Thanks!
Are you a member of any frequent flyer programs now?
Very few ffp's allow stopover on wards so will be 2 or more awards if you can get them.
Trans Atlantic business class awards & upgrades are hard to get with any ffp/airline. And close in that's harder
Your itinerary if all one ticket make its harder. Getting all that in 1 airline/alliance may add to complication - cost.
Other options are
- BOS-LHR/DUB-BOS and separate LON-DUB
- BOS-DUB-BOS and separate DUB-LON-DUB
- BOS-LON-BOS and separate LON-DUB-LON
- and other combinations / airports if cost is a major consideration
London airports are LHR & LGW. Do no just look for LHR.
I would look at buy direct from Amex, if you have a large surplus on MR's (they will not increase in value: only devalue)
Note flying business class
from most UK airports incurs the APD (noticeable extra cost)
