Call the hotel and ask. It's not unreasonable to request that the hotel make an additional night available in preferred room type when the hotel has similar category rooms available for that one additional night. If the hotel refuses, I don't believe you can combine room types with travel certificates. Alternatively, if a king bed was available for seven consecutive nights, one could book that one and request a different room after booking but before the no penalty cancellation date.
