I would suggest contacting Amex, explaining the CX situation, and seeing if Amex can send you a letter confirming that the old card number has been cancelled as of (date) because it was compromised, and a new card number has been issued in its place. It would at least give you something to show CX in the event that you were challenged.
If you have -- or can print a copy of -- your prior Amex statement showing the CX charge, that might also be a good idea.
All of this might be unnecessary, but since it would not take too much effort, I'd rather be safe than sorry.
