It was one of those 12-year-long contacts heavily front-end loaded that the league has effectively outlawed as had he kept playing the Canucks would've only had to pay $1.6M this season before it dropped to 1 million the last 2 years of the deal but since he retired now it's just over $3M cap hit for the last 3 years of the contact. Broadeur played until he was 42 I think so Bobby Lu could've had another 1-2 years as the wily back-up goaltender but opted out now rather than go that route.
I guess it worked out better than DiPietro
