There are ways for informed airline reps to uncheck In the passenger at the connecting US airport and adjust the PNR for the passenger to get rechecked in with the SSSS designation disappearing for the onward flight from the US port of entry. This can then help with getting PreCheck for say the domestic segment following the international SSSS flight segment having been completed.
