I checked the NY consulate's website --
https://www.algeria-cgny.org/visa-application/ and it says: "• Statement of financial resources or proof of income (pay stub, bank statement…)." If it's not on the DC embassy's website, it might be prudent to send a bank statement along in case they do want one and forgot to list it on the website.

Thanks for this. The visa situation (and being without a passport for upto a month, given that I only have one passport) always put me off as well as the protests recently. But I may have to reconsider, stick to European travel for a month and so on while I get the visa
