The outbound flight is a night flight so we will not miss much by not having the window seats.

For the inbound day flight, we would like to have window seats on the same side but 1A and 1K are blocked. Only 2A and 2K available at this time. Should we just stick to the middle pair of seats again or select either 2A2E or 2K2K and hope 1A1K would be available nearer to check-in time?

The 789 is one of those planes on which most people seem to prefer row 2 over row 1 (there are people who prefer row 2 over 1 on all planes, but I'd say the proportion is larger yet on the 789). I'm actually fine with both myself.
