Using points gives a Standard room which is normally for 2 persons. Similar to paying with cash, the hotel has the option of charging extra for additional guests or children in the room, if the room is suitable. Paying the (usually much) higher points rate for Premium rewards gives the option of getting a larger room or Family room which will be suitable for more than 2 guests. You would have to input 3 guests in the original booking request to see if these rooms are suitable and available.
