Can I just throw away a segment and buy a new ticket?
Hello,

​​​​​I currently have a reward ticket on Copa from Brazil to Sint Marteen (SXM) via Panama. Because of a change in plans, I now need to go to San Jose, CR (SJO) instead of Sint Maarten. Can I just buy a PTY-SJO ticket on Copa that departs 2hrs after my flight comes in from Brazil? When I check-in in Brazil, can I ask them to discard the PTY-SXM segments and check me through to SJO, instead?

Has anyone ever tried the above? Is there a risk they will cancel all my flights due to overlapping bookings?
